ITD I-84, Cloverdale Road Overpass
Project Facts
Key Number: 10949Project Number: A010(949) Project Background
The Cloverdale Overpass was damaged in July 2006 when it was struck by an over-height vehicle traveling eastbound (EB) on Interstate 84 (I-84). The impact damaged several bridge girders requiring weight restrictions on the structure. After careful analysis, the Idaho Transportation Department determined two girders on the overpass needed to be replaced.
Current traffic on Cloverdale Road exceeds 7,900 vehicles per day. Project Description
This project included removing and replacing two damaged bridge girders, and portions of the existing bridge railing and bridge deck on the Cloverdale Overpass.
Schedule of Work
Beginning May 30 at 9 a.m., the Interstate 84 Cloverdale Road Overpass closed to all vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. The bridge reopened on Friday, June 29. During construction, Cloverdale between Overland Road and I-84, and between Franklin Road and I-84, was open to local traffic only. Traffic was detoured to Eagle Road via Franklin and Overland roads. Eastbound I-84 was closed to nighttime traffic between the Eagle Road Interchange and I-184 (the Connector) on June 1 and 2 from midnight to 5 a.m. Signage directed traffic around the project area, using Franklin Road as a detour route. Through the work zone, eastbound I-84 traffic had a reduced speed limit of 55 mph, closed shoulders and periodic nighttime lane reductions. The inside westbound shoulder also was closed, though no speed reduction or lane closures will occured on the westbound interstate. Make Comments
