ITD I-84, Eagle Westbound Off-ramp Project
MP 45.975-46.6 Project Number: A009(980) Key Number: 09980 Project Facts
Eagle Road is one of the most-traveled highways in the state. It is the primary access to northern Ada County and the city of Eagle from Interstate 84 (I-84). Every day as many as 18,000 vehicles use the westbound Eagle Road off-ramp.
Description
The Westbound Eagle Road Off-ramp project will widen the westbound I-84 off-ramp onto Eagle Road. The completed off-ramp will begin 1600 feet sooner on I-84 at the Ridenbaugh Canal. Currently, the off-ramp is one lane wide and splits into single right- and left-turn lanes at Eagle Road. The improved off-ramp will include double right and double left-turn lanes for turning north and south onto Eagle Road.
Once constructed, the ramp will prevent vehicles from backing up onto the interstate shoulder while trying to exit and will allow for better turning movements onto Eagle Road. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2007 and end in late summer of 2007. Work is scheduled to take place in four phases:
Background
ITD begin the Eagle Road Arterial Study in 2003 to determine ways to increase safety, manage traffic more efficiently between the I-84 off-ramps and Idaho 44 (State Street).
ITD is moving forward with the Eagle Road Improvement Project and the construction of the Westbound Eagle Road Off-ramp. Traffic Impacts and Schedule
The westbound Eagle Road off-ramp will remain open at all times during construction.
Shoulders on I-84 and Eagle Road will be restricted or closed during the construction between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. During Phase 4 of the project, westbound I-84 between the Cloverdale Overpass and the Eagle Road Interchange will be reduced from four to three lanes. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route during construction. Public Involvement
ITD will inform motorists and surrounding businesses about the project and potential traffic impacts during construction in winter 2006-07.
Construction updates will be available through ITD's 511 service (511.Idaho.gov). Funding
Construction of the westbound Eagle Road off-ramp improvements is funded through the initial GARVEE bonds that were approved by the 2006 Legislature.
