ITD Locust Grove Road Overpass
Above is a computer-enhanced picture of what Locust Grove Road will look like after the overpass is built. Project Facts
Key Number: 8048Project Number: M-STP-84-1(047)45 Project Background
Due to its central location between several of Southwestern Idaho´s most populous cities and towns, which themselves have been experiencing extraordinary regional growth, Meridian carries the cross traffic of the Treasure Valley. According to a recent study by the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS), the center of the Treasure Valley´s population has been gradually moving westward since the 1970s. A new overpass over Interstate 84 that connects two sections of Locust Grove Road will help manage the areas increasing traffic.
Project Description
The I-84 Locust Grove Road Overpass opened on Thursday, Nov. 29, four months ahead of schedule.
Work started in December 2006 on the new overpass to connect Locust Grove Road and offer an extended route over Interstate 84 between Eagle Road and Meridian Road. Before the overpass was built, the nearest interstate crossings were at Eagle or Meridian roads. An estimated 20,000 vehicles are expected to use the new Locust Grove Overpass each day. The $5.8 million project was sponsored by ACHD and administered by ITD using federal funds. ACHD began the first phase which consisted of widening Locust Grove from Fairview to Franklin. ITD completed the overpass as the second phase of the overall vision. The new overpass consists of two lanes in each direction, sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the overpass. The overpass originally was scheduled to be complete in spring 2008. The contractor was Concrete Placing Company of Boise. Make Comments
