2012 Bridge Maintenance

Typical bridge maintenance work consists of deck surface improvements, joint repair, roadway approach work, guardrail and bridge railing, and concrete or minor structure repairs. Following is an explanation of each type of bridge deck surface improvement process:

Silica Fume â€“ Byproduct of silicon metals or alloys, is used to improve mortar and concrete strength and density by filling spaces between cement grains with silica fume particles.
Epoxy overlay â€“ Used for about 40 years, epoxy resin is used to seal cracks, protect concrete from water, corrosion and other contaminants, restore strength to a structure, and improve life span of bridge decks. Generally used on newer bridges as a protectant to concrete structure.
