Project Facts
Key Number: 7799
Project Number: STP-2390(133)

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) proposes to reconstruct a bridge on Idaho 75 over the Salmon River near Slate Creek, at MP 213.5. This bridge site is located approximately 9 miles west of Clayton. Construction is currently programmed for 2008.

Project Backgound
The original bridge, constructed in 1938, is vital to east/west travel between Stanley and Challis. It is a 4-span structure with 3 piers located in the Salmon River. The middle pier is located in the center of the river channel. The bridge is showing signs of deterioration and is recommended for replacement.

Project Description
The new Slate Creek Bridge will be constructed 38 feet upstream and adjacent to the current bridge. The roadway will be re-aligned accordingly. It will be a 3-span structure with two piers located at the water’s edge during normal summer flows. The new bridge will be wider and although it has a railing, motorist can view the river.

Construction is anticipated to occur over a two year period. Traffic will continue across the old bridge until the new bridge is complete. Minor traffic delays are anticipated with an occasional major delay while the new bridge girders are being placed.

The campground located west of the bridge will remain open to the public during the regular camping season.

The entrance to Slate Creek Road will need to be moved and realigned. Access may be greatly restricted and/or temporary road closures may be necessary.

Every effort will be made to notify the public of extended delays and/or closures well in advance of the event.
