Idaho 39 Blackfoot to Pingree/U.S. 26 Blackfoot to Peoples Canal Corridor Plan

Project Facts
Key Number: 08115
Project Number: STP-1721 (101)

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is developing a 20-year corridor plan to guide future management of U.S. 26 and Idaho (S.H.) 39. The plan will consider a broad range of potential improvements to the corridor to assure that these highways can meet the demands of a growing area, while remaining vital links in the state and national highway system. In collaboration with regional communities, corridor planning takes a comprehensive, big picture approach to determining current and future transportation needs. The desired outcomes are good, cost-effective solutions to transportation problems.

Project Background
The corridor plan examines a broad range of questions:
  • What needs to be done to address existing problems?
  • How is the highway used now and how will that change in the future?
  • How does the corridor interact with adjacent land uses?
  • Are there particular needs or demands on the transportation system that are not being met?

The draft Existing Conditions Analysis is the first step in the corridor planning process. It inventories and analyzes current conditions along U.S. 26 and SH 39. The U.S. 26 corridor runs from the west Blackfoot I-15 Interchange to Moreland Road. The SH 39 corridor is divided into two transportation segments - the northern portion extends from the junction of SH 39 with US 26 in Blackfoot to Pingree, and the southern portion from North Pleasant Valley Road to Pocatello Avenue in American Falls.
