ITD I-84, Broadway Interchange to Eisenman
![]() Project Facts
Project Number: A009(814) and A010(557) In May 2008, the Idaho Transportation Department (lTD) completed rehabilitating and resurfacing 5.6 miles of Interstate 84 between the Broadway Avenue and Eisenman Road (Isaacs Canyon) interchanges. The improvements extended roadway life, increased safety, and made the ride smoother for motorists. The project involved cracking the original concrete pavement and overlaying it with asphalt. The technique allowed the transportation department to keep two lanes open in both directions for daytime traffic in the heaviest· traveled part of the project. Background
This project is a result of an Environmental Assessment and a planning study for I-84 from just west of the Orchard Interchange to the Isaacs Canyon Interchange (Eisenman Road). The interstate, built in the late 1960s, was not designed to handle the current traffic volumes. The study recommended improvements for this corridor, including replacing the existing pavement, adding lanes to the interstate, installation of soundwalls, and reconstructing the Orchard, Vista, Broadway, and Gowen interchanges to meet future traffic capacity requirements. ITD received environmental approval for this project from the Federal Highway Administration in November 2007. For more information about the Environmental Assessment, click here. Schedule
Final design was completed in July 2007. Construction began in September 2007 and substantial completion was achieved May 2008. Compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act
