Grant Program Resources

Some grant applicants may lack enough local resources to match their FTA grant request. Many national and local business foundations have established programs to assist worthwhile projects meeting their criteria. In some cases, these organizations have granted requests for the local match for capital projects. Though they may not be listed below, don’t overlook the possibility that many local businesses, community groups (foundations) and individuals have been a significant source of donations in the past. The following links are intended to provide applicants who have need somewhere to start with some contacts.

Idaho Power Company
Verizon – technology driven priority
Qwest – invitation only
AT&T – pet projects but focus on improving community quality of living – social service potential
Sprint – focus on help with disabilities access, NFI, they use United Way otherwise
Gannet Publishing: Community Support from the Gannett Foundation - The Gannett Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that serve the communities in more than forty states (including Idaho) where Gannett Co., Inc., owns a local daily newspaper or TV station. In Idaho, cash grants are awarded three times annually to qualified non-profit organizations through the Gannett Foundation. A committee of employees review requests and recommend contributions to organizations that improve the education, health and advancement of people in their distribution area. Deadlines for applications are May 15 and August 15. Gannett Foundation requests are reviewed based on several criteria.

U.S. Cellular: is giving program supports to nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where the company has a solid business presence. The program provides monetary donations and free wireless phones and service to projects in the following categories: civic and community, education, health and human service, environment, and arts and culture.

Other Large Corporations

Simplots – Use another grant application to submit
Heinz Company – Ore-Ida Foods – helps to have past employees affiliated with organization, stress kids seniors and nutrition, care access
Boise (Cascade) Health and human service orgs go thru United way, others can apply with community improvement of education, economic livelihood. 
Melalucca – has nothing specific bus does make grants - see about us
State Farm Insurance Company – Strengthening Community Neighborhoods
Allstate is as limited as others but makes it clearer in their web page. However, the door may be open to sponsorship, rather than Economic vitality, tolerance, or safe and vital communities.
Albertsons – Focus is on hunger, health, kids, but doesn’t exclude vehicles for senior shopping trips to stores and medical services, United Way shares might be reduced or prevent award.
BMC West
Coors Brewery - no contact but claim 2% goes to philanthropy
Crookham Company Caldwell - Idaho has no foundation listed but is a seed company that may offer support to rural services
Union Pacific

Foundations

The West Abelard foundation $6,000- $12,000 limit. Community development oriented.
Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation
Paul G Allen Foundations: Typically won’t fund vehicles, but they do fund buildings that are permanent. A Vehicle Garage might qualify.

Pacific Corp. Foundation awards grants for requests in four categories: Civic and community betterment, Arts and culture, Health and Human services, Education.
