Statewide Rideshare Program (Transit)
Purpose: This program provides assistance from the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA) to assist in special efforts to promote commuting,
which conserves energy, improves air quality and reduces congestion.
Funding/Applicants: ITD allocates its annual
allocation of FHWA Surface
Transportation Program funds to four Local Rideshare Agencies who assist both individuals
and employers by matching people who live and work in the same proximity for ride
sharing purposes.
Eligible Activities: Each organization markets its individual
program. These activities are described in the MPOs Unified Planning Work Program.
Eligible activities include, but are not limited to:
Establishing a toll-free telephone number for people to call for Rideshare Program
information and potential ridesharing opportunities;
Participating in community events to promote ridesharing and vanpooling;
Offering media presentations such as TV, radio and newspaper advertising; and
Maintaining a database of the names and addresses of potential rideshare customers.
