How to Apply

Overview

Idaho receives $1 million each year in SR2S funding for projects that enable and encourage more K-8 students to walk or bicycle safely to school. The applications are reviewed by a statewide SR2S Advisory Committee (SR2SAC). The SR2SAC selects the projects and recommends a prioritized list to the ITD Board for approval. Applications for funding should demonstrate the following to have a good chance of being funded:

• Potential to increase the safety of students walking and biking to school
• Potential to increase the number of students walking and biking to school
• School support and commitment to the project
• School champion at each school who will lead the project
• A detailed plan for conducting regular walking and biking encouragement efforts and safety education
• Agree to conduct the following:
• International Walk to School Day in October
• Bicycle to School day in May
• Distribute school surveys to track progress
• A sustainable action plan that identifies strategies to address issues preventing students from walking and bicycling to school.
• Partnerships that include community stakeholders and evidence that the supports active living choices through local policies and initiatives

New SR2S mini-grants for FY12
New SR2S mini-grants for FY12 The SR2S program provides technical assistance through to help facilitate planning activities to help identify issues preventing students from walking and bicycling to school safely. Communities/schools who are awarded will receive technical assistance from transportation professionals with a background in transportation and community planning to assist with the development of a comprehensive travel plan for a specific school. We are accepting applications for planning assistance up to March 31, 2012. Depending on the volume of applications received, we will announce whether additional applications will continue to be accepted after that date. To be considered please send the attached SR2S Comprehensive Planning Assistance application to the ITD SR2S Program Coordinator.

Annual Call For Applications

Due to the volume of applications received for FY13 infrastructure funding, we found it necessary to program most of the available FY14 infrastructure funds during the last funding cycle.
Applications for FY14 non-infrastructure only must be submitted to ITD HQ by the March 31, 2012 deadline.
Please use the FY14/15 the application and guidelines attached below.
Funds for FY14 non-infrastructure projects will be available after October1, 2013 (FY13).

The SR2S Application Supplement must be used to report data all additional schools included in the application.
We are extending the next deadline for FY15 funding applications that have infrastructure included, to March 1, 2013.
The FY15 projects will be awarded mid-June 2013.
Once awarded, the funds will be available for non-infrastructure after October 1, 2014 (FY15).
Project development for FY15 infrastructure projects are programmed the prior year, therefore available after October 1, 2013 (FY14).
The FY15 project construction funds will be available on October 1, 2014 (FY15).
The infrastructure project development documents (Plans, Specification, and Estimate Packages) must be delivered to ITD, by October 1, 2014 (FY15).

Pre-application training will be offered at the dates/times below about the various local funding opportunities available through ITD including: ADA Ramp Improvement Program, Transit Funding Programs, Scenic Byways, Highway Safety Improvement Program, and Safe Routes to School.
