Project Description:
This project will review field performance of native plants at ITD revegetation sites and review information on revegetation best practices.
This information will help ITD address specific revegetation requirements and help determine the most effective ways to provide for the long-term
establishment of desirable perennial native vegetation as well as reduce surface erosion and weed establishment.
The objectives of this project are:
To evaluate the amount of native plant diversity and canopy cover at the three established sites and the additional newly established sites.
To assess the differential establishment of plants that are native and desirable versus non-native and weedy, including noxious weeds.
To evaluate the potential site characteristics that may influence native species’ effect on weed encroachment.
To calculate the relative success of the different planting mixes on native plant establishment.
To provide guidance and recommendations on the best native species to include in ITD revegetation projects and any special treatment of, or media preparation for, these species.
