This project will evaluate the safety benefits associated with use of IdaShield sign at Idaho passive (non-signalized) railroad crossings.
The research will determine if the IdaShield signs should continue to be required at railroad crossings.
The objectives of this project are:
To review the relevant literature on the safety benefits of the IdaShield and similar signs.
To analyze Idaho crash data from both before and after the IdaShield signs were installed at Idaho railroad crossings to assess the impact on crashes.
To study the impact of the signs on driver behavior at railroad-road crossings.
