4 Steps For Kids

1. INFANT
Who: Children under 1 year old who weigh less than 20 lbs.
Type of Seat: Rear-facing infant seat
Safety Tips

Have your safety seat inspected frequently by a trained professional

Call your local health department for assistance and installation information (click here to locate your local health district)

Read and understand all safety seat installation instructions

Never use pillows, books, towels or other objects to boost a child

Never use a child safety seat that has been in a serious car crash

Never position a shoulder belt under a child's arm or behind their back

Never use a lap belt without a shoulder belt in the belt-positioning booster seat

Never let children ride unrestrained even when they fuse or complain

Never place a child under 100 lbs. in front of an air bag.

2. TODDLER
Who: Children over 1 year old who weigh 20-40 lbs.
Type of Seat: Forward-facing child safety seat
3. BOOSTER
Who: Children age 4-8 who weigh
40-80 lbs. and are under 4 ft. 9 in. tall
Type of Seat: Backless belt-positioning booster seat or full-back belt-positioning booster seat
4. ADULT
Who: Children 8 years and older who weigh over 80 lbs. and are 4 ft. 9 in.
and taller
Type of Seat: Regular car seat using
an adult safety belt
