PURPOSE

Traffic Safety Problem
Identification Activities

Analyze data – causes and trends. Define problems and problem areas of state.

 

ITSC/Staff Planning Session

Review focus areas, goals and funding ranges. Modify as necessary and supportable by data analysis. Determine and approve funding distribution for focus area, and overall direction of program.

 

Grant Application Period

Provide notice of fund availability and solicit applications for targeted problem areas.

 

Draft
Highway Safety Plan

Clarify project proposals, prioritize projects, and develop draft language and spending plans.

 

ITSC Approval

ITSC formal approval of Highway Safety Plan. Last preparations before submittal to Transportation Board within the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) document.

 

Formal approval is through the Transportation Board.

 

Submit to NHTSA and FHWA

 
HSPP due NHTSA/FHWA.

 

Field implementation once funding is received.
