Highway Needs Report

The Highway Needs Report isolates each piece of the state highway system to report on various data pertaining to the road and its environment. Besides reporting on the existing condition of the road, the report also displays rehabilitation and reconstruction project recommendations generated by the Highway Economic Requirements System – State Version (HERS-ST). HERS-ST is a federally maintained computer model run with data taken from ITD’s mainframe and executed in the PC environment.

Also displayed in the report is information relating to the condition and needs of at-grade railroad crossings that affect state highways. There is also bridge needs and condition information shown along the state highway system. Finally, the report contains information pertaining to congestion levels.

The report contains a series of maps, with associated information pages containing any projects. The maps show roads that have recommended improvements within the next twelve years (in red), roads that do not have improvements recommended in the next ten years (in yellow); select bridge information is also displayed.
