Project Description

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is repaving Eagle Road from Fairview Avenue to State Highway 44. In addition to the rehabilitation of Eagle Road, the following improvements/upgrades will be made:

Adding continuous raised medians from Franklin Road to Oakhampton Drive
Installation of continuous raised medians on Chinden Boulevard from the intersection with Eagle Road east to the eastern most Target access
Updating approximately 90 pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
Upgrading all of the highway and street signs along the roadway to current national standards
Removing the free-flowing right turn lanes at Eagle Road and Chinden Boulevard

There are four types of intersection designs that will be used along Eagle Road.

Construction schedule

Construction has begun and is expected to be completed in Summer 2013. The improvements will be constructed in three phases:

Phase 1: Franklin Road to River Valley Street (1.5 miles)
Phase 2: River Valley to Oakhampton Drive (3 miles)
Phase 3: Oakhampton Drive to State Highway 44 (1.5 miles)

Construction Updates

New Signal Coming at Eagle Road and Wainwright Drive

A new signal will be added at Wainwright Street and Eagle Road. The signal will improve traffic flow and help reduce delays on Eagle Road between I-84 and Idaho 44 – is expected to be in operation by mid-July.

Crews will begin working on the road shoulder to install the signal during the day. All lanes will remain open during the day. • One lane will remain open in each direction during nighttime construction. The nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.

What to expect during construction

Eagle Road will be open at all times.
Throughout the day and during peak travel time there will be no lane closures or restrictions.
Typical work hours will be 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
At least one lane in each direction will be open from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at all times.
Speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone.
Access will remain open at all times for businesses and residences except during overnight paving at driveways or approaches.
