ITD North Overland (Idaho 27) Road Project
![]() Project Facts
Key Number: 8903 Project Number: STP-7592(103) The City of Burley and The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) have joined forces to plan, design and rehabilitate/reconstruct North Overland Road (Idaho 27) in Burley from I-84 to the Snake River Bridge. Construction will begin this spring and be completed by the fall of 2010. Project Backgound
Both the City of Burley and ITD recognize the significance of Overland Road to the community and regional travelers and have dedicated sufficient resources to effectively identify the roadway needs and complete the rehabilitation/reconstruction process. The process involved an assessment of existing roadway conditions, adjacent intersections and frontage roads to develop a comprehensive solution to meet roadway and user needs for the future of north Burley. Project Description
This project will rehabilitate/reconstruct North Overland Road (Idaho 27) in Burley from I-84 to the Snake River Bridge. The process included a technical assessment and an environmental analysis to support a final recommended design. Detailed traffic simulation studies for current and future conditions have been used to review and determine improvement alternatives.
To ensure local perspectives were included, the planning process involved representatives from the City of Burley, ITD, project area property and business owners, the Mini-Cassia Transportation Committee and affected agency representatives. A Project Advisory Committee formed with local representation helped guide the process and evaluated alternative solutions. The preferred alternative following several public open house events were identified and incorporated into the project design. Project elements include installation of a new traffic signal at Third Street and retention of signals at Fifth and Seventh Streets; construction of three lanes in each direction with the outside lanes being right-turn in and out only; installation of a full-length median with U-turn opportunities at all intersections; and the frontage road will no longer exist.
