ITD to begin resurfacing SH-55 in Horseshoe Bend tonight

ITD is asking drivers to slow down and watch for construction crews on State Highway 55 (SH-55) south of Horseshoe Bend due to recent dangerous driver behavior in the area.

The Idaho Transportation Department will begin resurfacing State Highway 55 in Horseshoe Bend tonight. The work will take place overnight to minimize congestion on SH-55 during daytime hours.

ITD is extending the rehabilitation project on SH-55 to include a stretch of highway through the city of Horseshoe Bend. This section was originally planned for construction in three years. However, due to anticipated early completion of the current project and for the convenience of drivers while we are in the area, ITD decided to extend the work zone this year. Those traveling through the area can expect:

  • Nighttime construction will continue for approximately two weeks from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., depending on weather.
  • Traffic may be reduced to a single lane. Flagging crews and pilot cars will assist with traffic management.
  • Limited daytime work will also occur, including pavement marking and manhole adjustments.
  • The speed limit through the construction zone will be reduced to 25 mph.

ITD would like to remind the public that multiple projects are currently underway on SH-55, and travelers should check their route at 511.idaho.gov before heading out.
