I-84 South Jerome Interchange

Crews are working to replace the South Jerome Interchange. The interchange was originally built in 1966 and the new interchange will be a Divided Diamond/Couplet design.

Lincoln Avenue Bridge Demo

Crews are demolishing the old Lincoln Avenue bridge. This work requires nighttime I-84 closures for several weeks. Demolishing this bridge will allow crews to continue widening I-84 under the South Jerome Interchange.

  • Nighttime I-84 closures will occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for several weeks.
  • I-84 closures are not scheduled to occur on Friday or Saturday nights.
  • I-84 traffic will use the interchange ramps to exit and re-enter I-84 around the closed area.
  • Flaggers may direct traffic on Lincoln Avenue.
  • Daytime I-84 lane closures will occur.
  • Work is weather-dependent and may be delayed due to conditions.

Major milestone!

ITD has moved traffic onto one of the new bridges on Lincoln Avenue and opened the new westbound off-ramp at the South Jerome Interchange.

  • One lane is open in each direction on Lincoln Avenue.
  • The old Lincoln Avenue bridge is closed to all traffic.
  • Click here to see a map of the new traffic pattern.
  • This traffic pattern will remain in effect until the new southbound Lincoln Avenue bridge is completed in 2026.

This bridge opened ahead of schedule and marks a major milestone in the construction of the new South Jerome Interchange. This traffic shift allows crews to demolish the old bridge sooner than originally expected, creating the space needed to widen I-84 to three lanes in each direction under the interchange. The second Lincoln Avenue bridge will open in 2026.

Temporary ramp

ITD has detoured a ramp at the South Jerome Interchange onto a local road. This new traffic pattern will allow crews to construct the new eastbound off-ramp.

Current traffic impacts

ITD began work on the South Jerome Interchange in February 2024. Right now, motorists can expect:

  • Traffic on Lincoln Avenue moved to the new bridge over I-84 in fall 2025. Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction between the I-84 bridge and E Frontage Road S. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until 2026. Click here to view a map of the current traffic pattern.
  • Traffic from the eastbound off-ramp is detoured to Bob Barton Road. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through summer 2026. Click here to view a map of the current traffic pattern.
  • Intermittent I-84 lane closures will occur for the duration of the project. For the next few months, daytime lane closures may occur as crews work on the new Lincoln Avenue bridges.

Summer 2025 update

Crews have been hard at work at the I-84 South Jerome Interchange. Check out the 2025 update video for the latest information about work on the:

  • Interchange ramps
  • New Lincoln Avenue bridges.
  • I-84 Jerome to Twin Falls widening project

Flagging on local roads

Crews will intermittently flag on Bob Barton Road, E Frontage Road N and Lincoln Avenue near the South Jerome Interchange. Flagging will allow crews to work on the new interchange ramps and bridges.

Flagging is expected to occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and business access is expected to remain open.

What to expect during construction:

  • Most work will occur Monday – Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Intermittent nighttime closures on I-84 will be necessary for bridge work, girder placement and traffic shifts.
  • Lane closures, traffic shifts and ramp changes will occur.
  • Local road closures will occur and detours will be in place.
  • Speed limits will be reduced.

Project overview

In 2024, crews began work to replace the South Jerome Interchange. The interchange was originally built in 1966 and it has reached the end of its design life. The new interchange will be a Divided Diamond/Couplet design. This design will:

  • Replace aging structures to meet current standards.
  • Improve safety by reducing the impact of the frontage roads on the on- and off-ramps.
  • Increase traffic flow by installing new traffic signals.

Improvements include:

  • Replacing the current interchange with a Divided Diamond/Couplet Interchange.
  • Installing new traffic signals.
  • Adding a sidewalk and bike lane to the Lincoln Avenue bridges.
  • Improving Lincoln Avenue and frontage roads.
