COMPLETE: SH-3 Soldier Creek Bridge

ITD will replace the nearly 100-year-old Soldier Creek Bridge on SH-3 to improve safety and reliability with a wider structure, higher load capacity, new guardrail, and 5-foot shoulders.

Overview

ITD will replace the Soldier Creek Bridge – a box culvert – on State Highway 3 near Santa during the 2025 construction season to improve safety, support modern traffic needs, and replace the nearly century-old structure.

Background

Originally built in 1934, the Soldier Creek Bridge has served the region for nearly 100 years. With increasing safety and maintenance concerns, ITD is moving forward with a full replacement of the structure—technically a box culvert—on a short 1/10th-mile stretch of SH-3. The new design will support higher load capacities and offer a wider roadway, including 5-foot shoulders and updated guardrail to meet current safety standards. This work reflects ITD’s continued investment in preserving key rural routes and supporting Idaho’s transportation infrastructure for the next generation.

Construction began in summer of 2025 and was completed by fall.
