I-84 Jerome to Twin Falls

ITD is widening I-84 between the South Jerome Interchange and the Twin Falls Interchange. These improvements will increase capacity and improve safety on I-84 to serve the region for years to come.

I-84 lane closures

Intermittent lane closures will occur on I-84 between Jerome and Twin Falls through the end of construction in 2026. Motorists are encouraged to plan their route in advance by using 511.idaho.gov.

2025 project update

Crews have been hard at work on the I-84 South Jerome Interchange and the I-84 Jerome to Twin Falls projects. Check out the 2025 update video for the latest information about work on the:

  • Interchange ramps
  • New Lincoln Avenue bridges.
  • I-84 Jerome to Twin Falls widening project.

Traffic pattern on I-84

ITD has shifted traffic from the outside lanes of I-84 into the newly constructed lanes in the median between Jerome and Twin Falls. Traffic is expected to remain in this pattern until 2026.

Motorists should expect work on the outside lanes of I-84 as crews continue to widen the interstate to three lanes in each direction between Jerome and Twin Falls.

What to expect during construction:

  • Intermittent lane closures will occur on I-84 during the daytime and nighttime.
  • Traffic shifts and lane changes will occur.
  • The speed limit on I-84 is reduced.
  • 400 South Road will be closed or reduced to one lane intermittently.
  • Ramp changes will occur at exits 168 and 173. The temporary ramps may be shorter than the current ramps.

Project overview

In 2025, construction crews will wrap up work on the outside lanes of I-84 and the new 400 South Road bridges.

Work began in April of 2023 and is anticipated to be complete in 2026.

Improvements include:

  • Widening I-84 to three lanes in each direction.
  • Replacing the roadway with a new concrete surface.
  • Reconstructing the 400 South Road bridges.

These improvements will be coordinated with plans to improve the South Jerome Interchange (Exit 168).

Leading Idaho

This project is being funded with Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds as a part of the Leading Idaho TECM Program. The program allows ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to fund and build.
