I-84 traffic is shifted
Crews shifted I-84 traffic near the Twin Falls Interchange (Exit 173) on Sept. 10-11. The new traffic pattern will allow crews to replace aging asphalt with new concrete on the inside lanes of I-84.
What to expect:
- I-84 traffic shifted to the outside lanes on Thursday and Friday nights, Sept. 10-11.
- The westbound loop on-ramp is open.
- Westbound I-84 traffic is reduced to one lane from east of the Twin Falls Interchange (Exit 173) to the westbound loop on-ramp.
Ramp OPEN at the Twin Falls Interchange
The loop westbound on-ramp at the Twin Falls Interchange is open! The ramp closed in spring 2026 so crews could replace aging asphalt on I-84 with new concrete.
2025 project update

What to expect during construction
- Intermittent lane closures will occur on I-84 during the daytime and nighttime.
- Traffic shifts and lane changes will occur.
- The speed limit on I-84 is reduced.
- Ramp changes will occur at exits 168 and 173.
Improvements include
- Widening I-84 to three lanes in each direction.
- Replacing the roadway with a new concrete surface.
- Reconstructing the 400 South Road bridges.
Leading Idaho
This project is being funded with Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds as a part of the Leading Idaho TECM Program. The program allows ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to fund and build.

Frequently Asked Questions
ITD repaved I-84 between Exit 168 and Exit 173 in 2019 and 2020. This work was to rebuild and strengthen existing pavement. The repaving of I-84 was part of regularly scheduled maintenance work on I-84.
Construction began in April 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
The bridges need to be replaced to accommodate the additional lanes on I-84. The bridges will also be raised to provide more vertical clearance for vehicles on E 400 South Road.
ITD will be utilizing as much of the new pavement as possible in the expansion of I-84.
Improvements to interchanges will not be included in this project. Improvements being made to the South Jerome Interchange are part of a separate project. Plans for the two projects will be coordinated.
