I-90 Morning Mill Interchange

The Idaho Transportation Department is studying future improvements to interstate access in the Mullan area, including replacement of the Morning Mill Road interchange bridge.

Overview

ITD is evaluating long-term interchange and access options along I-90 in the Mullan area as part of an early planning effort tied to the replacement of the Morning Mill Road bridge. This study-focused phase is gathering community input and technical analysis now to support informed decisions ahead of design and construction.

Project Overview

Morning Mill Road overpass over I-90.

The Idaho Transportation Department is studying future improvements to interstate access in the Mullan area, including the replacement of the Morning Mill Road interchange bridge, which has reached the end of its service life.

Before moving forward with a replacement, ITD is evaluating how nearby interchanges and access points along I-90 work together to support safety, mobility, and long-term community needs. This early planning effort will examine multiple concepts and access configurations between milepost 66 and 70 to identify the best long-term solution for the region.

This project is currently in a planning and study phase. No final decisions have been made, and construction is still several years away. Community input is being gathered early to help shape future options and inform the selection of a preferred alternative.

Decisions made during this phase will guide improvements for decades to come, with construction currently anticipated around 2030.

Access & Connectivity

This study looks beyond a single bridge replacement to evaluate how the Morning Mill Road, River Street, and Atlas Road interchanges work together to serve the Mullan area. By reviewing access, spacing, and long-term functionality across these locations, ITD can better understand how future improvements may enhance safety and mobility.

An upcoming value planning session with local leaders, stakeholders, and community members will help gather feedback and ensure future recommendations reflect both technical analysis and local priorities.
