Overview
The Idaho Transportation Department is rehabilitating 5.3 miles of US-95 in Fruitland and Payette this summer. Work will start just south of
Gayway Junction and end north of Payette. Crews will start by replacing several irrigation and utility crossings, with paving operations following.
Work is expected to finish in fall 2026.

Current Traffic Impacts
Paving work continues on US-95
Crews are continuing to pave US-95 between the Y intersection in Payette and the Payette River Bridge.
After paving this stretch of highway, crews will move on to another section of US-95.
US-95 will be reduced to one lane in each direction with daytime and nighttime work. Drivers are asked to use caution in the work zone and expect delays.

In Fruitland, crews are replacing curb and gutter and will then begin paving operations.

In Payette, crews are replacing pipes in and around the road. Then, crews will replace curb and gutter before beginning paving operations.

Crews will begin work rebuilding the road base and applying new pavement to several sections of roadway. Crews will complete each section before moving to the next.
Work will begin in Payette south of the intersection of US-95 and 16th Street, then continue to the Payette River Bridge. US-95 will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Why is ITD resurfacing US-95?
ITD has received numerous requests from businesses and the public to address the excess wear and tear on US-95 in the Payette/Fruitland area. This highway is a regional route that stretches from Mexico to Canada. It is a primary north-south route used by the traveling public to access California, Nevada and Oregon, with many businesses using it to transport their goods to market.
Resurfacing US-95 will provide a smoother driving surface and extend the life of the roadway.
Where will US-95 be resurfaced?
ITD will rehabilitate 5.3 miles of US-95 in Fruitland and Payette. The project’s boundaries start just south of Gayway Junction in Fruitland and end just past Railroad Lane north of Payette. Crews will work on the highway in sections, and crews will complete paving on one section before moving on to the next.
When does work start and when does it end?
Work began in early spring 2026. Paving is expected to begin in late spring or early summer 2026. The project is expected to finish in 2026.
How will this project impact traffic?
Traffic impacts will vary based on location and activity, but motorists should expect delays. Where possible, ITD will maintain one lane open in each direction on US-95. At locations that are not wide enough to accommodate this, US-95 will be reduced to one lane with a flagger and alternating traffic.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes around the project limits including SH-52 to reach the Black Canyon Road (Exit 13) interchange. Motorists will see additional impacts at the I-84, US-30 interchange (Exit 9). Please visit Idaho.511.gov to see a statewide map of traffic impacts.
Will there be a detour in place?
While motorists can expect delays, there will not be a detour in place. ITD asks motorists to use SH-52 and Exit 13 to access I-84 should motorists need to use an alternate route.
Will ITD be working on the whole area at once?
ITD will work on the highway in sections and avoid impacting the entire project area simultaneously. Construction is expected to begin in Fruitland and proceed north towards Payette.
