Overview
Construction is planned for 2031 that will resurface the US-95 corridor through Coeur d’Alene from Bosanko Avenue to Wyoming Avenue.
Pavement Preservation
The U.S. Highway 95 Coeur d’Alene corridor carries some of the highest traffic volumes in North Idaho and serves as the primary north-south route for commuters, freight, residents, and visitors. To keep this vital roadway functioning safely and smoothly, the Idaho Transportation Department is planning a pavement preservation project on approximately four miles of the highway between Bosanko Avenue and Wyoming Avenue. While long-term studies like the Rathdrum Prairie Area Transportation Study may recommend future expansion of the corridor this project will address the existing roadway and pavement needs only and will not change the footprint of the highway.
This $9 million rehabilitation project focuses on maintaining and extending the life of the existing roadway through a mill and inlay treatment which is a cost-effective method of restoring the pavement condition and ride quality without full reconstruction. Crews will start by grinding down the surface of the roadways and replacing it with a fresh top layer of asphalt.
The project is currently scheduled for construction in 2031 and is expected to be complete within a single construction year, likely starting in spring and ending in the fall.
Project Highlights
Several important things to know about this project are:
- Work will involve improving the existing travel lanes, shoulders, and turn lanes of the highway through the corridor.
- Work will be performed within the existing footprint of the highway, no additional widening will occur.
- Work will largely be done during the night to minimize the impact to daytime traffic.
- Nighttime construction noise may be temporarily disruptive. Care will be taken to minimize these disruptions as much as possible.
- Despite the nighttime work schedule, daytime traffic may experience impacts such as:
- Lane reductions or closures
- Reduced speeds
- Temporary access or turning movement adjustments for side roads and businesses.
