Overview
Safety improvements on U.S. Highway 95 at School House Road will focus on addressing a history of serious and fatal crashes at intersection in Naples. Increasing traffic volumes, including heavy truck traffic, combined with the existing intersection layout have contributed to ongoing safety concerns.
Construction planned for 2032
A Road Safety Audit completed in 2025 recommended full reconstruction of the intersection to provide a long-term safety solution. The project is currently in the planning and design phase, with construction anticipated to begin in 2032.
While construction is several years away, early planning allows time to complete environmental review, coordinate with nearby infrastructure, and work with property owners to develop the safest and most effective design.
Purpose
This project aims to improve safety and reduce both the frequency and severity of crashes at the intersection of US-95 at School House Road. Project design elements in consideration include:
- Realignment of School House Road and Trail Creek Road on both sides of US-95
- Addition of a center two-way left turn lane on US-95
- Construction of right-turn bays in both directions
- Drainage improvements and culvert replacement/modifications
Final details will be developed further as the design process progresses into the future. Updates will be shared with the community as new information becomes available.
Timeline
Although the improvements may appear straightforward, the intersection is constrained by nearby infrastructure, environmental features, and adjacent development. Planning must also account for drainage, potential creek impacts, and coordination with the railroad. These factors require additional work as the project design is developed and before construction can begin.
