Overview
Planned barrier replacement along Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass will address aging infrastructure and improve safety for drivers traveling between Mullan and the Montana state line.
Barrier Replacement in 2029
Barrier along this stretch of I-90 has been damaged over time by harsh winter weather, snow removal, and crashes. In some areas, the concrete is breaking apart and steel inside the barrier is visible. Sections of guardrail have also been hit and repaired many times and will need to be replaced in coming year.
This project will replace barrier along the outside shoulders in both directions through Lookout Pass. The new barrier will be more durable and easier to see, especially during winter driving. Reflectors will be added to the new shoulder barrier and installed on the existing median barrier to improve visibility and help drivers better see the roadway in low-light and snowy conditions.
