Overview
The Riverton Road Bridge was originally scheduled to be replaced as part of the I-15 Exit 89 to Exit 93 Widening project. After sustaining damage from a vehicle strike in November 2025, ITD has determined that the most cost-effective path forward is to replace the bridge ahead of schedule. Construction on the new bridge began in May and is expected to be completed in late 2026.
This bridge design will be compatible with widening improvements designed for I-15, as well as improvements planned by the city of Blackfoot for Riverton Road.
Construction Begins!
• Demolition will take place the week of May 18.
• Nighttime I-15 closures will occur.
• Traffic will be detoured to Exit 89 and Exit 93. View a detour map.
The new bridge includes:
- A two-span steel girder bridge that will allow future widening of Interstate 15.
- Two 12-foot lanes.
- Two 4-foot shoulders.
- Two 6-foot sidewalks.
- Safety fencing.

During construction, motorists can expect:
- Daytime and nighttime I-15 lane closures.
- Intermittent nighttime I-15 closures and crossover traffic patterns.
- Reduced speed limits on I-15.
- Riverton Road will remain closed between Frontage Road and Sweetwater Drive.
What’s happening now?
Crews plan to demolish the existing bridge between Monday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 20. Nighttime I-15 closures will occur and traffic will be detoured to Exit 89 and Exit 93.
