As warmer weather brings more motorcycles to Idaho roads, May is recognized as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The Idaho Coalition for Motorcycle Safety and the Office of Highway Safety are urging both drivers and riders to stay alert and prioritize safety, especially in light of a sharp increase in motorcycle crashes and fatalities in 2023. To promote awareness, a Motorcycle Awareness Rally will be held on May 3 at Sandy Point, followed by a ride to the Capitol and a community BBQ. Officials stress that with rising crash numbers and low helmet use among adults, increased vigilance and training can save lives.

Lane restrictions and full closure overnight are happening at US-20 Exits 332 and 333 through the next week to prepare for installation of large overhead signs.

Drivers should plan for significant weekend delays and allow extra time for travel.

The Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho State Police in the East Idaho area of the state have a partnership that has been proven time and time again. The two agencies recently worked together again at the scene of a multi-fatality crash on US-20 near the Idaho/ Montana border.

Construction will commence next week to build a new passing lane on U.S. Highway 95 near Ferdinand to smooth traffic flow and provide a safer opportunity to pass.

Westbound Interstate 84 will close Wednesday night the Garrity and Ten Mile interchanges. Crews will mobilize a large crane and other materials into the center median of I-84 to begin work on the piers for the new fly-over ramps and work on overhead sign structures.

ITD will begin maintenance work on the Rainbow Bridge along SH-55 over the North Fork of the Payette River starting Monday. This project is intended to ensure the bridge meets current safety and capacity requirements until a new bridge is completed.
