Registration Requirements

To register a vehicle in Idaho:  

  • The vehicle must belong to an Idaho resident or business.  
  • The vehicle must be titled in Idaho before it can be registered. (You can apply for vehicle registration immediately after submitting the required title documents to a county assessor’s motor vehicle office.) 

Generally, any vehicle operated on public highways must be registered and titled.  

To register and title a vehicle in Idaho, you need to provide a full legal name, along with either an Idaho driver’s license number, Idaho-issued ID card number, social security number (SSN), or employer identification number (EIN) for a businesses. You must also have a verifiable physical address and mailing address.

You should renew your vehicle registration before it expires. If you renew your registration early, your new expiration date will not change. You cannot renew a registration that is suspended or revoked or is conditional for title.

  • Inspection requirements
