The Idaho Transportation Department reopened Elkhorn Road between State Highway 75 and Weyyakin Drive the evening of Wednesday, August 5, two days ahead of schedule. In partnership with the city of Sun Valley, ITD closed Elkhorn Road on July 13 to allow crews to construct the east half of the SH-75/Elkhorn Road intersection faster than would have otherwise been possible.
Traffic has moved to the newly completed east side of SH-75 so crews can build the west half of the SH-75/Elkhorn Road intersection. The traffic signal at the intersection of SH-75 and Elkhorn Road has been reactivated, and traffic is expected to remain in this pattern through late 2026. Motorists can continue to expect intermittent traffic shifts, flagging and lane closures on SH-75 and local roads.
During the closure, crews:
- Removed the roadway surface and layers of roadway material.
- Placed structural fill material in the SH-75/Elkhorn Road intersection and along Elkhorn Road.
- Installed curb and gutter along SH-75 and Elkhorn Road.
- Built sidewalk along SH-75 and installed pedestrian railings.
- Built and paved driveway approaches connecting to Elkhorn Road.
- Completed work on storm and sewer systems.
- Paved and striped the SH-75/Elkhorn Road intersection and Elkhorn Road.
Construction on the SH-75 Elkhorn Road to River Street project began in 2025 to improve safety and capacity in the project area by widening SH-75, improving pedestrian access and improving intersections and local roads. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027. As work continues on SH-75, motorists are encouraged to leave early, follow signage and pay attention when traveling in the work zone.
