ITD is launching the 3rd annual “Name a Snowplow” contest, inviting Idaho’s 6–12 grade students to help bring creativity and character to the plows that keep roads clear through the winter.
Beginning October 1, classrooms across Idaho can work with their teachers to submit original snowplow names. Entries will be accepted throughout October, and winning names will be announced by the end of the year. Homeschool students are also invited to participate.
“Our snowplow drivers take tremendous pride in keeping Idaho’s roads safe, and this contest gives students a fun way to connect with that work while learning about winter driving safety,” said Laila Kral, Chief Deputy of ITD.
Two snowplows in each of ITD’s six regions will receive student-chosen names, selected through voting by ITD employees. Winning names will be placed directly on the plows, and each winning classroom will receive a visit from “their” snowplow and driver for a winter safety presentation. Local news media will be invited to attend these naming events.
The contest provides teachers with an easy, engaging way to introduce winter driving safety, especially for students preparing for driver’s education, and encourages all motorists to stay alert and patient around snowplows during Idaho’s winter months.
ITD extends its appreciation to the Department of Education for supporting this hands-on learning opportunity.
