SH-11 Greer Grade landslide stabilization

ITD is stabilizing the hillside along SH-11 after monitoring increased roadway settling on the Greer Grade.

Overview

ITD has been monitoring SH-11 near milepost 2.5 on the Greer Grade and repairing areas where the roadway has settled. Recent monitoring has shown increased movement in the hillside, prompting a more extensive stabilization project to protect the highway and keep it safe for travelers.

Construction

Crews will construct a soil nail wall—a retaining wall anchored into the hillside along the downhill side of the highway—to help hold the soil in place. Crews will also remove a portion of the existing roadway bed and replace it with material that allows water to drain more easily.

Travel impacts

Starting at the beginning of Oct., SH-11 will be reduced to one lane through the project area and a temporary traffic signal will operate 24 hours a day.

  • Travelers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
  • One lane will remain open for all traffic, including commercial vehicles.
  • Travelers may use an alternate route to avoid delays.

Construction is anticipated to continue through mid-February. The schedule is dependent on weather and site conditions and may change.
