SH-52 Snake River Bridge Replacement

The bridge has reached the end of its service life and will be replaced.

Overview

In conjunction with ODOT, ITD continues to progress the design of the State Highway 52 Bridge in Payette over the Snake River, which connects Idaho and Oregon. Built in 1953, the bridge no longer meets current highway bridge standards for motorists, including freight haulers who transport produce across the region. The new bridge will improve safety and mobility for the traveling public by adding shoulders to accommodate increased traffic volumes and larger vehicles such as farm equipment. At this time, ITD plans for reconstruction to begin in early 2027.

ITD hosted public open houses and online meetings on May 10, 2023, and Oct. 22, 2025. We appreciate your participation and input!

What we heard: A full bridge closure during construction would negatively impact your livelihoods, safety, and mobility. In response, ITD and the design team will keep the bridge open during construction by building the new bridge one half at a time.

Construction is scheduled to start in 2027 and will take about two years.
