SH-55 Fleming Creek

Replacing the bridge will ensure Fleming Creek can safely and reliably cross under SH-55 to the Payette River.

Overview

The Idaho Transportation Department is replacing the State Highway 55 Fleming Creek Bridge approximately 3.7 miles south of Banks.

The bridge has reached the end of its design life. Replacing the bridge will ensure Fleming Creek can safely and reliably cross under SH-55 to the Payette River.

Work began in September 2024 and is expected to be completed in summer/fall 2026.

Project description

ITD will complete this project in phases. In the initial phase you will see the contractor set up their work area and begin excavation and groundwork.

Next, crews will begin removing the west (southbound) side of the existing structure. Traffic will use the east (northbound) side of SH-55 while work is being completed.

Once work on the west (southbound) side is finished, the final work will begin on the east (northbound) side, and traffic will be redirected to the west (southbound) side of SH-55.

Work is expected to be completed in summer/fall 2026.

Construction impacts

During construction, motorists can expect:

  • Most work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The speed limit will be reduced on SH-55.
  • 11-foot width restrictions and no shoulders throughout the work zone.
  • Intermittent lane closures.
  • Flaggers and a temporary traffic signal will direct motorists during lane closures.
