Overview
Two US-93 bridges in Custer County will be updated and improved in coming years. Design work is now underway to keep this route and the irrigation operations of these areas running smoothly.
The Idaho Transportation Department is working on designs for two bridges along U.S. Highway 93. Both the Kriley Gulch and Burnett Ditch Bridges have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced.

Kriley Gulch Bridge
Built in 1931, the Kriley Gulch Bridge is located on US-93 five miles north of Salmon, toward the Montana border. This structure will be replaced with one that meets modern design standards and improves safety. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.

Burnett Ditch Bridge
Originally built in 1929, the Burnett Ditch Bridge runs under US-93 one mile south of Mackay. Two existing structures will be replaced with a single structure that also meets modern design standards and improves safety. This project is expected to begin construction in 2029.

Construction Impacts
- Work at both bridges will done one side at a time.
- Traffic will be reduced to one lane, with temporary signal lights in place during construction.
- Both waterways are used for irrigation, so work will take those schedules and needs into account.
- New bridge components are expected to be pre-cast concrete, which means less time construction will affect traffic.
- These projects are currently in design phase, more details on construction effects to motorists will be relayed in the future.
