Overnight closures complete ahead of schedule
Crews have made significant progress on the Lapwai Creek Railroad Bridge removal in Culdesac Canyon, and no additional overnight closures of US-95 are needed. The previously scheduled closure for tonight, Sept. 16, has been canceled.
Daytime construction will continue as crews remove the remaining portions of the bridge and complete work in the project area. Travelers should continue to expect single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers and delays of up to 15 minutes.
Overview
The Idaho Transportation Department will remove the abandoned railroad bridge over US-95 near milepost 283 to eliminate one of the few vertical clearance restrictions on the US-95.
Benefits
This project will allow taller commercial loads to travel freely on Idaho’s primary north-south highway, as the distance between the pavement and the bridge currently restricts travel to loads shorter than 14 feet 11 inches. Removing the bridge will support freight movement along US-95 between Oregon and Canada and accommodate future improvements to the highway through Culdesac Canyon.
