US-20 Idaho Falls to Rigby

US-20 from Idaho Falls to Rigby is now being resurfaced to ensure the longevity of this vital roadway.

WE'RE WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT

This project is now underway, with one lane closures in effect overnight on US-20 between Idaho Falls and Rigby. Construction is happening from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., with both lanes open during daytime hours. This section of road serves approximately 44,000 vehicles a day this time of year! That means plenty of traffic on US-20 through the work zone, so be patient and drive safe.

Overview

Construction of this project began just after Memorial Day 2026. Crews are resurfacing U.S. Highway 20 from milepost 309 (north of Science Center Exit) to milepost 320 (Rigby Exit), including all exit ramps and the roadway under each interchange. The top layer of asphalt is being removed, and then new asphalt applied to provide a continued smooth, safe ride and ensure the longevity of this lifeline route in east Idaho. Engineered and proven pavement preservation like this is what keeps good roads good!

Traffic Impacts

This section of US-20 serves an annual average of more than 30,000 vehicles per day! Because we know this is such an important lifeline route for eastern Idaho, the contract has specified that all construction work be conducted during nighttime hours, starting at 7 p.m. and concluding by 6 a.m.

Sections are being removed and then repaved all within each night shift. This allows both lanes of US-20 to be open during the day. During nighttime working hours, traffic is restricted to one lane in the area construction is specifically being done.

Ramp closures will soon be in effect at the US-20 exits within the project area- Lewisville, St. Leon, Hitt Road, Ucon, County Line and Rigby. Timing of these closures will be shared in advance here to the degree possible. Detours at the next exit will be available, with only one ramp at a time being closed.
