About the Corridors
State Highway 50 (Red Cap Corner to I-84):
U.S. Highway 30 (Eastland Drive to Red Cap Corner)
Why is this project needed?

This project is one of many efforts to improve transportation safety and mobility in the Magic Valley. The region has changed dramatically since the Hansen Bridge and Red Cap Corner were constructed in the 1960s. The valley’s population has grown by almost 40 percent in the last 20 years and this trend is expected to continue.
The Hansen Bridge was constructed in 1966 over the Snake River Canyon. To accommodate additional traffic on SH-50, ITD is evaluating options for replacing the two-lane bridge.
Community Involvement
Community input will help ITD evaluate the needs and priorities for these corridors. ITD will gather input through one-on-one interviews, a corridor working group and a community-wide public meeting. Watch this website for opportunities to give input.
Project Schedule
-
2026
• Gather data about traffic operations, safety, and other existing conditions.
• Gather stakeholder and community input about both corridors.
• Develop alternatives for both corridors and the Hansen Bridge. -
Future Years
ITD will continue to involve the community as this project progresses. The study portion of this project is funded but no funds are allocated for construction at this time.
