10th Ave exits will experience closures overnight through the next week for paving and sign installation.

The Idaho Transportation Department will close 10th Avenue under Interstate 84 for three nights starting Wednesday, Sept. 23. The 10thAvenue eastbound on- and off-ramps will also close on Wednesday night, followed by the westbound on- and off-ramps on Thursday night. Motorists will detour to Centennial Way.

Motorists can expect the following closures:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 23:10th Avenue under I-84 and both eastbound ramps will close overnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Click here for a detour map.
  • Thursday, Sept. 24:10thAvenue under I-84 and both westbound ramps will close overnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Click here for a detour map. 
  • Friday, Sept. 25:10th Avenue under I-84 will close overnight from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Click here for a detour map.
  • Sunday and Monday, Sept. 27 and 28:Flaggers will direct traffic at the 10th Avenue ramp intersections from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night while crews paint lane lines.

The closures will allow crews to pave the roadway underneath I-84 and install overhead sign structures on the ramps.

“By Tuesday morning, drivers will have two lanes in each direction and a center turn lane on 10th Avenue with a new driving surface,” Resident Engineer Styles Salek said. “We are excited to get these lanes open and know the community has been looking forward to this.”

The I-84 widening project in Caldwell began in November 2023 and includes:

  • Widening I-84 to three lanes in each direction with auxiliary lanes between interchanges.
  • Replacing the 10th Avenue Interchange.
  • Removing one westbound on-ramp at the 10th Avenue Interchange. 
  • Updating the pedestrian overpass.
  • Building a sound wall along Hannibal Street.
  • Adding a traffic signal at the westbound ramps at the Centennial Way Interchange.

Construction on I-84 in Caldwell is ahead of schedule and all lanes are expected to be in their final configuration by early 2027.
