These programs address the increasing demand for a skilled transportation workforce through helping stakeholders identify, train, and place highway construction workers and through the facilitation of Transportation STEM programs for Idaho’s youth. Through these programs, ITD collaborates with agency partners and transportation stakeholders to develop career readiness for Idahoans seeking to enter the Transportation workforce.

ICONIC – Idaho Career Opportunities Next In Construction

Funded through 504 (e) of title 23, U.S. C.

These training programs provide “hands on” experience and certifications in the following areas: Flagging, Forklift, First-Aid/CPR/AED, and OSHA-10. Additional areas of instruction for career readiness include resume writing and interviewing basics. ITD provides oversight, guidance and program support.

29 CFR 29 Labor Standards for the Registration of Apprenticeship Programs

This program aids contractors in meeting the Training Special Provisions (TSP) goals on specific Federal Aid projects. ITD Training Program Standards and DOL Apprenticeship Standards combine paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare workers for highly skilled careers. The ITD Sponsored DOL Apprenticeship Standards offers an alternative solution to contractors who do not have an existing training program through an Employer Acceptance Agreement that ensures the contractor follows the ITD sponsored training program.

NSTI – National Summer Transportation Institute

Funded through FHWA Headquarters’ Office of Innovative Program Delivery (HIN)

This training program provides middle and high school students with an awareness of careers in the transportation industry through promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines in transportation education. Accredited colleges and universities are selected as host sites upon application to ITD. ITD provides oversight, guidance and program support.
