The Idaho Transportation Department will shift traffic onto the new westbound Interstate 84 lanes between the Centennial Way and Franklin Road interchanges. To complete the traffic shift, overnight ramp closures will occur Saturday, Oct. 31.
Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 28, the right lane on westbound I-84 must exit at 10th Avenue. Motorists must stay in the left lane to continue on I-84.
Motorists can expect on Saturday, Oct. 31:
- The Franklin Road westbound on-ramp will close.
- The 10th Avenue westbound on-ramp will close.
- Lane closures will be in place on westbound I-84.
- Ramps and lanes will close from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- View the detour map.
After the shift, westbound I-84 will have:
- Three lanes open between Franklin Road and 10th Avenue off-ramp.
- Two lanes open between the 10th Avenue off-ramp and Centennial Way Interchange with an auxiliary lane (exit only lane) between the 10th Avenue on-ramp and Centennial Way off-ramp.
“Eastbound traffic shifted onto the new lanes earlier this month,” Resident Engineer Styles Salek said. “Shifting westbound traffic will give crews room to build the new loop on-ramp and connections to I-84 and remove the current on-ramp.”
The project began in November 2023 and is expected to finish by summer 2027. The project includes:
- Widening I-84 to three lanes in each direction with auxiliary lanes between interchanges.
- Replacing the 10th Avenue Interchange.
- Removing one westbound on-ramp at the 10th Avenue Interchange.
- Updating the pedestrian overpass.
- Building a sound wall along Hannibal Street.
- Adding a traffic signal at the westbound ramps at the Centennial Way Interchange.
