SH-13 East Kooskia Bridge

Replacing the East Kooskia Bridge over the Clearwater River on SH-13 will allow it to continue to operate safely for years to come.

Overview

This project will replace the narrow bridge at milepost 0.703 with a new structure to improve safety and traffic flow. The new bridge will increase capacity, widen travel lanes, add shoulders, and accommodate a future sidewalk.

ITD is currently evaluating two build alternatives:

  • Alternative 1: Replace the existing bridge in its current location
  • Alternative 2: Construct a new bridge approximately 300 feet north of the existing structure and reconstruct sections of SH-13B and US-12 to connect to the new alignment

Once complete, the project will provide a safer, more reliable crossing on SH-13B in Kooskia.

Background and Future Outlook

This crossing was built in 1935 and is currently posted as a one-lane structure for trucks and buses. The current bridge will be replaced with one that meets current design standards.
